Every customer shopping on your Shopify store has unique intent based on what they put into their cart. Showing a generic, static upsell offer to every visitor misses huge cross-selling opportunities. We're excited to introduce Offer Rules — a powerful new feature in WeUpsell that lets you show custom recommendations based on conditional cart logic.
The Problem with Single-Offer Upsells
Previously, upsell widgets could only be assigned a single static offer configuration per template. Whether a customer added a pair of running shoes, a leather jacket, or a phone case, they would see the exact same set of recommended items.
With Offer Rules, you can create hyper-targeted recommendations. If a buyer adds shoes, offer socks; if they add a laptop, offer a protective sleeve; if their cart contains items from a specific brand or collection, offer accessories tailored to that vendor.
How Offer Rules Work: IF (Condition) → THEN (Offer)
Every template can now hold multiple rules. Rules are evaluated sequentially from top to bottom. The first rule whose condition matches the customer's cart wins:
- Visitor updates cart or opens checkout/post-purchase page.
- WeUpsell evaluates Rule 1 condition (e.g. Cart contains footwear collection).
- If Rule 1 matches → Show Rule 1 offer (e.g. Premium shoe cleaner).
- If Rule 1 does not match → Evaluate Rule 2, Rule 3, etc.
- If no rules match → Fallback to Default Offer (e.g. WeUpsell AI Recommendations).
6 Powerful Condition Triggers
You can trigger rules using 6 flexible conditions based on cart or order contents:
| Condition Trigger | Best Use Case |
|---|---|
| Specific product(s) | Complementary product bundles (e.g. Camera + Memory Card). |
| All products except | Exclude specific items like gift cards or digital products from triggering rules. |
| Product from collection(s) | Category-specific cross-sells (e.g. Footwear → Shoe Care). |
| Product with specific tag | Promote accessories for specific product lines (e.g. tag: Summer2026). |
| Product with specific vendor | Brand-specific upsells for multi-brand stores. |
| Product with specific title | Target specific product series by title keywords. |
Best Practices for Building High-Converting Offer Rules
- Place your highest-value specific product rules at the top (top priority).
- Use Collection or Tag rules in the middle for broad category coverage.
- Always enable the Default Offer with AI Recommendations to capture visitors who don't match specific rules.
Yes! You can add as many offer rules as you need per template. Rules check top-to-bottom and the first matching rule triggers the offer.
If no rule matches, WeUpsell displays the Default Offer. You can set the Default Offer to AI Recommended, specific products, or collections.
