How to Set Up AI Product Recommendations on the Order Status Page

Display AI-powered product recommendations on your Shopify Order Status page to encourage repeat purchases and increase Average Order Value (AOV). This guide walks you through creating an Order Status Product Offer, publishing it, and adding it to your Shopify Order Status Editor.

📋 Requirements

  • ✓Shopify must support Customer Accounts & Order Status Extensions.
  • ✓The WeUpsell – AI Upsell & Cross Sell app must be installed.
  • ✓Your store must be using Shopify's extensible Thank You and Order Status pages.

1Step 1: Open the Template Library

To begin, navigate to your templates inside the WeUpsell dashboard:

  1. Open WeUpsell from your Shopify Admin.
  2. Go to Templates.
  3. Under Upsell Extensions, click Order Status Product Offer.

This template allows you to display AI-powered product recommendations on your Shopify Order Status page.

After opening the template, you can customize the appearance of your recommendation widget. You can enable or disable the following:

  • Product Image
  • Product Title
  • Price
  • Product Variant
  • Quantity Selector
  • Product Description
  • Buy Now Button
  • WeUpsell Branding

Adjust these settings to match your store's branding and customer experience.

Note: The preview uses sample products. On your live store, WeUpsell automatically displays relevant or complementary products based on the customer's purchase.

Click the Conditions tab. For Order Status Extensions, display conditions such as page targeting, triggers, and schedules are not used. The recommendation widget will appear only after it has been added to the Shopify Order Status Editor.

Once you've finished customizing the widget:

  1. Click Publish & open in editor.
  2. A setup dialog will appear with publishing instructions.
  3. Click Publish.

Publishing saves the template in WeUpsell and automatically opens the Shopify Order Status Editor.

After clicking Publish, Shopify automatically opens the Order Status Editor. In the left sidebar, open the Apps panel. You will see the available WeUpsell app blocks, including:

  • Order Status Product Offer
  • Order Status Product Offer 2

These blocks are used to display AI-powered recommendations on the Order Status page.

There are two ways to add the recommendation block.

Option 1 (Recommended)

  1. Open the Apps panel.
  2. Under AI Upsell by WeUpsell, locate Order Status Product Offer or Order Status Product Offer 2.
  3. Click the + icon.
  4. Select Order status.

The app block will be added automatically.

Option 2

If you don't see the Apps panel:

  1. Click Add block inside the Main section of the Order Status Editor.
  2. Search for Order Status Product Offer.
  3. Select the appropriate WeUpsell app block.

The recommendation widget will be inserted into your Order Status page.

After adding the app block, choose where you want it to appear. We recommend placing it:

  • Below the purchased products
  • Before the Order Summary
  • Near the Order Details section

Choose a position that gives the recommendations good visibility without interrupting important order information.

After positioning the widget:

  1. Click Save in the top-right corner of the Shopify Editor.
  2. Wait for Shopify to finish saving your changes.

Your AI Product Recommendations are now live on the Order Status page.

✓ Verify Your Setup

To make sure everything is working correctly:

  • ✓Place a test order.
  • ✓Open the Order Status page.
  • ✓Verify that the recommendation widget appears.
  • ✓Check that products are displayed correctly, details are accurate, and the Buy Now button works as expected.

🛠️ Troubleshooting

I can't see the Order Status Product Offer block.

Check that the template has been published from WeUpsell, you're editing the correct Order Status profile, the WeUpsell app is installed/enabled, and Customer Accounts & Order Status Extensions are enabled for your store.

The block is available but doesn't appear on the Order Status page.

Make sure you've clicked Save after adding the block inside the Shopify Editor. Refresh the page or open a real Order Status page from a recent test order instead of relying only on the editor preview.

The preview shows placeholder products.

This is expected. The editor displays sample products for layout purposes. On your live store, WeUpsell automatically displays relevant or complementary products based on the customer's completed order.
